Bridging the Gap Between the Classroom and the Newsroom - IMT Home Coming of Alumni
Education in mass communication should have a number of aims, one of which should be to develop a competent and experienced human resource for the Fourth Estate of the Realm, which is responsible for representing the voice of the general people.
In a turn of events that is somewhat ironic, business owners in the media industry have been the ones in recent years to voice reservations and doubts regarding the professional ability of newly graduated journalists.
It is absolutely necessary for the continued development and upkeep of Nigeria's democratic system that the integrity of the ecosystem that is comprised of the mass media be preserved at all costs. The foregoing poses a problem for the Mass Communication Department at IMT, Enugu, which is a well-known and formidable venue for teaching, studying, and inventing on the subject of the scaling up of mass communication. The department is forced to engage in some self-reflection as a result of this scenario.
As a consequence of this, the management and staff of the Department would like to offer an invitation to any and all of its formerly employed individuals to participate in a Homecoming event with the theme "Bridging the Gap Between the Classroom and the Newsroom."
We are of the opinion that if this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for reflection is taken advantage of, a renaissance will be brought about.
